National Development Planning Commission
The SDG Implementation Coordination Committee on Wednesday, 5th May 2026 convened at the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) to assess progress and identify critical gaps in implementation efforts.
Deliberations focused on reviewing the current state of SDG Implementation Coordination Committee’s work plan, with particular attention to data availability. Members underscored significant data gaps that could potentially affect Ghana’s reporting and planning processes.
The Committee emphasised that addressing these data challenges is imperative, especially as the country prepares to participate in next year’s High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development, a key global platform for assessing progress on the SDGs.
As part of the session, two Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), namely Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly and Ga West Municipal Assembly, presented their experiences with the preparation of Voluntary Local Review (VLR) reports, highlighting the methodologies employed, challenges encountered, solutions adopted, and the benefits realised within their jurisdictions.
Representatives from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) also provided updates on their respective contributions to the VNR process, reflecting a coordinated national effort to strengthen SDG implementation.
Madam Alice Amekudzi, Director in charge of Development Policy Division at the National Development Planning Commission reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting stakeholders, noting that inputs from the meeting would be carefully considered and integrated into ongoing work.
The Commission also expressed optimism about expanding MMDA participation in Voluntary Local Reviews, describing them as a vital foundation for an effective national review process.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for stronger partnerships, particularly in addressing data gaps, to ensure Ghana remains on track to achieve the SDGs.
